Barns, boots, and big lessons

A new season is beginning at Westview Boys’ Home, and the Pig Team is hard at work preparing for the arrival of their next group of show pigs. The barn buzzes with energy as the boys sweep out pens, repair gates, scrub water troughs, and stack feed bags in neat rows. Every task, big or small, helps set the stage for success—and teaches lessons that reach far beyond the ranch.

Before the first pig even steps into the barn, the show team is already learning about teamwork, patience, and responsibility. Preparation takes effort and attention to detail, and through that work, they begin to understand that good results don’t happen by accident—they come from steady, consistent care.

When the new pigs arrive, excitement fills the air. The animals are curious and full of energy, and the first few days can be a little chaotic. There are spills, escapes, and plenty of adjustments to make. Through it all, the young men and women learn that animals respond best to calm voices and gentle hands. Working with the pigs requires patience and consistency—qualities that prove valuable both in and out of the barn.

As the days pass, the barn will become a place of quiet transformation. The pigs grow stronger and more trusting, and the boys grow more confident in their abilities. They come to see that caring for animals isn’t just about feeding and cleaning—it’s about showing respect, staying committed, and learning to work together toward a shared goal.

We are so thankful to those who have given monetary gifts, donated supplies, and prayed for this program. Your partnership with us and the support for the young men who work in this program is invaluable. Our show season is off to a great start and we have no doubt it will be a successful one as well.
