House One

Checking our list, and it’s better than nice!

We are checking off the list of work to be done to build the Hospitality House, the first of five homes in our LAUNCH neighborhood! In January of this year, we were able to begin putting infrastructure in place so that we could start building homes. Westview has invested $234,000 in site preparation, roads, water lines, and sewer lines. The electric company has brought power to all our homes, and the gas company is completing its plan to bring gas lines to each house.

In February, we were able to begin foundation work on House One. Site prep – check. Footings – check. Pre-plumb – check. Pre-electric – check. City inspection – check! As work on each phase of the work on this house was completed, Jacob Robinson, our contractor moved the crews from house one to the next. As of the end of June, all five homes were framed and roofed, with work on the interior of the five houses at various stages of completion.

In the Hospitality House, the heat and air have been installed, electrical and plumbing are in place, drywall is up, insulation is in, the cabinets are installed, doors and trim are in place, and we’re ready for paint—inside and out. We plan for this house to be completed in September. The other homes will finish one after another after that.

We are currently in conversations with people in Weatherford about the ways that LAUNCH and the community can mutually benefit one another. Those talks are helpful and hopeful. This fall, our LAUNCH mentors will move into their home in our neighborhood. After they are situated, we will begin to invite young men to come live in our neighborhood.

When complete, Westview will have invested over $2.25 million in the LAUNCH neighborhood. While most of those funds are in place, the Westview board and team are currently seeking donors to help cover the last $500,000 of the project.
