10 Sep The Culinary Classroom
Westview LAUNCH is off to an incredible start!
With the guidance of our dedicated mentors, Gary and Mary Smith, our first residents are diving headfirst into new opportunities—finding jobs, building confidence, and learning life-changing skills.
One of the most exciting parts? Mary is taking the young men on a journey into the kitchen, where they’re discovering the art of cooking. But this isn’t just about scrambled eggs or a quick sandwich—Mary is teaching full recipes and real techniques: savory meatloaf, perfectly roasted chicken, creamy garlic potatoes, and even biscuits and gravy. The men are learning how to read and follow recipes, prepare balanced meals, and, of course, enjoy the reward of sitting down to something they’ve created with their own hands.
But the lessons don’t stop at cooking. In every session, they’re also learning about food safety, cleanup, time management, and how to pull an entire meal together. And as their skills grow, so do their passions—many discovering talents and interests they never knew they had. LAUNCH isn’t just giving them skills; it’s giving them a vision for the future.
Even more powerful than the meals are the moments spent together. The kitchen has become a place of laughter, teamwork, friendship, and accomplishment. These shared experiences create lasting memories and deepen bonds of community.
This is what LAUNCH is all about: a place to learn, a place to belong, and a place to call home.
